Accelerating learning pace in piano
I signed her up with piano or music lessons at Seimpi at Hougang Mall last year in mid June. She is now doing her 2nd term, her 1st book was over, she is learning the 2nd book. Overall she is doing fine in the class. I like the teacher, her name is Jane, she is much better than the other one that I ever attended before on her make up class.
Though her memory is good, but her piano skill was not picking up well. I was quite disappointed with her initially. She saw musical notes and played very slow, even though she could read it. And her fingers, I could not stand, they were like ducks, and stiff. When I reprimanded her, she was not happy and throwing her tantrum. I saw Emmanuel (Indonesian boy) her classmate playing piano very fluently and smoothly without any assistance. He was playing very well, for such a young soul. That's the turning point for Bethanie, she is that it, I told my heart "I am gonna make her practice her piano everyday". From that Saturday, each morning i made her practice in her piano every 10 mins. That's the only time I could manage my time. Before that I told my maid and actually I taught her too in order to teach/guide my daughter. But ....well as you know, what kind of result do I expect? No much improvement. That's why the best educator is still you yourself as parents, not school, maid or grandparents.
Just for two weeks, every day and every morning without fail, she was playing every song very fluently, and the most important thing is she now has interest in learning or playing the piano. Now she will automatically go to her keyboard first thing in the morning and play it. And now I am actually behind her, cause now she can play the songs without looking at the book. How fast she learnt!!! Before long I was guiding her, showing her how to play, and read notes, and now...look at her. I knew one day she can accelerate me and absord everything fast, I just could not catch her pace anymore. She is in her alpha mind, this is the best time to teach where she theoritically and simply just absorbs everything that goes in her mind.
We both learnt piano at the same time. Life is always interesting. For me, for such old age, I keep on learning new things everyday.
Nowadays, she can improvise the songs on her own, sometimes when she watched the Little Einstein and found new songs from the series, those classical musical notes, she would quickly go to her little and cheap keyboard and tried out herself. By the way, I intend to invest a better unit once she is more advanced. Now we are just happy with our $39 bought from Carrefour.
Amazing, just two weeks, and my effort just paid off.
